Seriously learning PHP for real

Seriously learning PHP for real. I've been tweaking around in it for years, but now it's time to get serious.

One of my favorite reference sites, W3 Schools offers all course/tutorial information free online. To get certified in a particular area, it's only $95. I don't know if it matters much to say I'm certified, but I may consider it when I have 1337 skills in PHP. I did very well with their mini HTML & CSS quizzes, and perhaps after I've learned more in PHP I may feel inspired to have all those fancy "Certified in" badges on my site. I don't know. I guess it depends on whether my clients think it's important or not. Hmm...

  1. Hehe, I just decided to test out my PHP skills by taking their mini PHP quiz and got a 75%. Not too bad – I thought I'd super-fail. Still, I won't accept anything but perfect once I'm done learning! 😉

  2. It's a pretty horrible language but you are pretty much stuck with having to use it in lots of situations. The Zend Framework makes it much more manageable, but that's another learning curve.

  3. Interesting, David. I have so much to learn, apparently. I guess it's better I learn it long-form and when I get good and tired of that, I'll definitely look up the Zend Framework!
